WORKSHOP: JAPANESE TABLEWARE PRODUCTION
2023-06-27 Source:ceramic.dk

Workshop focused on the production of tableware from a large mound of clay and according to the Japanese tradition.

Pre-requisites:

Mastered the basics of centering and a basic knowledge of throwing on the wheel.

Trainer:

Yuichi Romita is a young Italian-Japanese potter traditionally trained in Karatsu-yaki (wood-fired pottery in Karatsu, Japan). For four years, Yuichi studied as an apprentice to Nakazato Tarouemon, the 14th generation (living national treasure) of an unbroken line of family potters dating back to the late 14th century.

He became fully immersed in this ceramic culture as an apprentice in Karatsu. There he learned how to become an efficient production potter, as well as learning the philosophy and craft of tableware.

Today he works as a wood-firing technician at Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Centre in Denmark, while producing his unique characteristic style of unglazed wood-fired pottery.

Description:
