The Unity

中荷艺术家作品联展

“The Unity”curated by Ruddy Metal Studio and E6·Bentu One, which is from May 6-13, 2019, opening would be from 15:00, at that time the culture counselor of the Dutch Embassy Mr. Bart hofstede would attend and give a speech. The artists are Karin Van Paassen (Netherlands), Liu Mujun (China) and Yan Huiyu(China).

由Ruddy Metal Studio与E6·本土一间共同策划的「The Unity」,中荷艺术家作品联展将于5月6日下午3点开幕。届时,荷兰驻华使馆文化参赞何甫先生(Bart hofstede)将出席并致辞。此次参展艺术家分别为荷兰艺术家Karin Van Paassen, 中国艺术家刘慕君、闫绘宇。

Ceramic is the media connected the three artists but was translated dramatically different. Jewelry is the language for Karin and Mujun while Huiyu choses sculpture as her tool to tell the story about her identity.

三位艺术家虽均以陶瓷为创作媒介,但却有着不尽相同的诠释手法。Karin和慕君以首饰为载体,一中一西黑白对比分明;而绘宇则以雕塑的形式探寻关于个人身份的问题。

Karin has had a life long passion for jewellery. She is an avid collector of ethnic jewellery. Most of which she discovers duringher extensive travels.

She is fascinated by the significance of jewellery in different cultures, the surprising use of unconventional materials, the lavishly opulent decorations and the power which is often attributed to jewellery.

As a curator Karin has organized many projects and exhibitions integrating ethnic jewellery collections, combined with contemporary jewellery.

For a number of years Karin has been designing jewellery and objects, incorporating predominantly natural materials as well as searching for new forms and applications.

Karin对首饰有着接近痴迷的热情。她是一名狂热的民族首饰收藏家,在各国旅游时经常会收藏富有当地民族特色的首饰。

她常常为首饰在不同文化中的重要性、其非常规的材料、奢侈华丽的装饰、权力的象征而着迷。

作为一名策展人,Karin举办了许多与首饰相关的展览和项目,使更多观众有机会观赏到少数民族首饰与当代首饰完美的结合;多年来,Karin一直坚持首饰和艺术作品的创作。她善于使用天然材料,也喜欢探索首饰新的表达形式以及运用。

In 2017 Karin worked on a collection of blackporcelain necklaces in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China. Although the collection is partly inspired by China it also consists of antiqueethnic charms from a diverse range of cultures. This, in combination with the porcelain charms, hasresulted in a harmonious collection in muted color tones.

2017年,Karin在中国瓷都景德镇制作了一系列黑色瓷器项链。尽管这套首饰的设计受到了不少中国文化的启发,但它同时也包含了多个古老文明中护身符元素中提取的精髓。与瓷器护身符的有机结合,融汇成了相得益彰的柔和色调。

Works introduction:

The inspiration for the work of "Touch" comes from the fact that I onceasked myself a question: How big is the difference between different people after experiencing the same thing in the same time period? The touch points andthe depth of feelings vary from person to person. Everyone's mood is like aunique lake. We can see the surface of the lake, but we can't see the gullies deep under the water. The differences between people’s thinking make us like standingon a planet while observing another. The expectations and demands of communication force us to stretch our tentacles and enter or observe eachother's "planet".

《触》这组作品的灵感来源于我曾经问过自己一个问题:不同的人经历同样的事情,同样的时间,感受的区别会有多大呢?人与人之间感受点不同,感受的深浅不同,每个人的心境都像一汪独特的湖水,我们看得到湖面,却看不到湖底的沟壑。人和人之间的思维区别与观念区别,使我们像在一个星球观察另外一个星球。沟通的期待与需求迫使我们伸长自己的触角,进入或者观察对方的“星球”。

I think that each material has its own character, just like people, so thecreation is more like an interaction and a kind of communication. In the equal process of "mutual creation" between people and materials, I began tounderstand the materials, and the materials also told me "Who am I".Materials are frank, and in such a candid interaction, people’s most realemotional and psychological state that lies deep in the heart will be evoked. Creating concrete forms of abstract feelings like emotion has always been myfavorite. We all know emotion, but we have never seen it throw eyes. I think itmust have its own appearance.

我认为每种材料都有其自身的性格,与人一样,所以创作更像是一种互动,一种沟通。在人与材料这种平等的“相互创作”中我开始理解材料,材料也在告诉我“我是谁?”。材料是坦诚的,在这样坦诚的互动过程中,人会被勾起最真实的情绪与心理状态。把情绪这样的抽象情感创作出具体形态一直是令我感兴趣的事,我们知道情绪,但却不曾见过情绪,我想它一定也有自己的模样。

HuiyuYAN’s works often use glass and ceramics, and use their own materialcharacteristics to express her own artistic language.

Her works has always revolved around the question of identity. The series is basedon a resin prototype of a children's clothing model.

闫绘宇的创作常常利用到玻璃和陶瓷,并利用其自身的特性来表达自己的艺术语言。

她的作品常常围绕身份问题进行探讨。这一系列作品都是由一个树脂的儿童服装模特的原型再加以创作。

“I was born in the 1980s in China, so how to find and reflect the existence andvalue of individuals in the collective? And how do we define a person'sidentity? Is it the question about psychological, social or political...?”

But what makes a human is the richness, the subtlety, the variety, the versatility of his nature.

“作为一个出生在八十年代的我,如何在集体里去寻找并体现个体的存在与价值?我们如何去定义一个人的身份?这是个心理问题,社会问题,还是政治问题……?”

但人之为人的特性就在于他的本性的丰富性、微妙性、多样性和多面性。

Karin Van Paassen

Karin Van Paassen has been a curator and cultural entrepreneur since 1979. She has organized nume- rous exhibitions, lectures,fairs, shows, art trails etc. for cultural organizations, museums and galleriesin the Netherlands and abroad. She develops concepts and executes projects in the areas of design and fashion. She is particularly drawn towards projects which require an interdisciplinary approach. She has undertaken workshops and given lectures at Technical Universities and Art Universities. She has also been a member of various Boards and Commissions.

In 2002 Karin co-founded the WEB. Foundation andwas its Director until 2017. The WEB. Foundation was an organization whichseeks to contribute to the prevention of HIV/AIDS and Ebola by developing educational tools in the form of animations and games. These tools were successfully implemented in a number of affected areas in Africa and Asia.

Together with Lulu Fan she founded Blendix Design, meant for Dutch / Chinese design projects in China.

自1997年以来,Karin一直是一名策展人和文化企业家。她在荷兰及多国文化机构、博物馆以及画廊举办过多次展览、讲座、展卖会、秀场、艺术展览等。她善于在设计和时尚领域开发策展概念并执行项目。她特别喜欢那些跨领域的项目。她曾在技术学校和艺术学院举办过工作坊和讲座。她也是多个委员会的成员。

2002年,Karin创立了WEB.founda-tion基金会,并担任基金会总监直到2017年。WEB.foundation基金会开发了预防艾滋病和埃博拉病毒的教育素材,素材多是动画和游戏形式。这些教育素材目前在亚洲和非洲多个国家被广泛使用。

与Lulu Fan一同创办了Blendix Design公司,主要针对荷兰和中国直接的设计项目。
