Artist Biography

Zhang Fuye
Born in 1955. He graduated from the Central Academy of Art and Design in 1982 and stayed on to teach at the school. In 1990, he served as a visiting researcher at Tokyo University of the Arts, Japan. In 1999, he received a doctorate in literature. He is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, and the director of the Institute of World Art History. He is also a distinguished professor of the China Academy of Arts, a member of the Expert Steering Committee of the China Academy of Arts and Crafts, a vice chairman of the Beijing Arts and Crafts Association, a director of the Japan Art Evaluation and Preservation Association, and the dean of the Hunan Traditional Craft Research Institute. He used to be the director of the Art History Theory Department of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University and the editor-in-chief of the art journal "Decoration".
Zhang Fu is also a scholar-type artist. He has authored monographs and textbooks such as "History of Foreign Arts and Crafts", "History of World Decorative Art", "Japanese Art", and published many influential academic papers in the art world. His artistic creation covers a wide range, and he has deep attainments in painting, calligraphy, seal cutting, and pottery. He has held many personal art exhibitions at home and abroad, won praise for his elegant and unique artistic style, and won many awards. His works have been collected by international organizations, cultural and educational institutions, art organizations and relevant domestic units and individuals in France, Italy, Australia, Britain, Canada, Japan and other countries.
