    Yao Bo received her Masters Degree in Ceramics in 2001 from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and in 2001 became an Instructor in the Ceramics Dept. there. In 2016 she became Associate Professor.  Her first book, Becoming Ceramic, was published in Chinese in 2012 and has been widely reviewed.  Her work has been exhibited in Belgium, France, Italy, and Turkey (Exhibition of Chinese Drinking and Eating Vessels), and all over China. She won first prize at the Fifth Annual Exhibition of Craft Work from Contemporary Chinese Arts Institutes in 2009, and was included in the First National Festival of Woman Ceramic Artists in 2017. In 2013 she was awarded the President’s Award for Best Faculty Artwork (Sichuan Institute of Fine Arts).  In 2012 she designed and built Yao Space, including a wood-burning kiln of her design, and since then has hosted many firings and workshops (including dance, theater, music, other arts) dedicated to exploring the spirit of fire.
